My own philosophy — one that I arrived at through years of quiet observation — is that every home has a light sequence. A natural choreography created by:
- the angle of the windows
- the season
- the weather
- the time of day
- the colour of the walls
- and the objects already living in the space
This sequence is reliable. Predictable.
A kind of daily ritual the home performs without fail.
Morning light that greets one wall first.
A sharp 2pm streak across the hallway.
A warm evening glow in the corner of a bedroom.
I began to notice that these tiny moments changed the emotional tone of the room — and my own mood. I felt more open in bright spaces, more calm in warm ones, and more unsettled in dark patches where the light never reached.
That’s when I understood:
Light guides our nervous system.
Light shapes our sense of safety.
Light determines whether a home feels like a home.
